8 Months
At 8 months, Beckett:
-Struggles to sleep well at night
-Naps well during the day
-Crawls on hands and knees
-Cruises on the furniture
-Still has just 2 teeth
-Loves to go swimming
-Eats really well
-Happy sweet easy going baby

New Orleans
Richard here. With Jess and the boys gone to UT for vacation I decided to take a small trip of my own. Devon has been doing his masters degree at Tulane in New Orleans, so I took a day off work and flew to visit him on Thursday evening returning Tuesday morning.
We had a blast together! It was great to spend time just hanging out and reconnecting. Devon has come to visit us a number of times in Dallas, but to go to New Orleans and spend time without the family was a real treat.
The first morning we went out to Tulane and Devon took me on a tour of his workshop and hot shop. What a different grad degree experience he's having from me! Where my classes were all engineering and technical he takes classes on wood and glass and spends hours a day working on those. So cool! We picked up snow balls on the way home. Really it's just shaved ice...
We also went out and checked out Burbon Street during the early afternoon, I was amazed at the drinking occuring at 2:30 on a regular Friday afternoon. Crazy! The workers also tried to usher me into the strip clubs. I declined. We had Po Boys for lunch. Very yummy.
Saurday Devon planned for us to go tubing down one of the local rivers (not the Mississippi). The river was across Lake Pontchatrain and we got to go on the 23 some odd mile causeway. Talk about an engineering dream! He, Leah (his gf) and I all went and spent about 4 hours cruising down the river. It was awesome. I've never done anything like that before, but now that I have I am a big fan. It was a great reason to sit around and talk and enjoy company. Similar to why I enjoy baseball, except whenever it got hot you just slipped out of the tube and swam around. Awesome! Getting to know Leah was fun, she's going places! Hope Devon holds on tight. We went back to Leah's apartment afterwards, she lives 1 street off of Burbon Street, so I spent a couple minutes walking Burbon Street at night. It was about 9:00, and the craziness was definatey raming up. Again, weird.
Sunday Devon and I did nothing. We hung out in his apartment and played video games. I beat his Tetris score on the Roku Stick. Glad to know we are both going on 30 and can still waste a day playing video games and hanging out, but I was nice to just let the conversation meander throughout the day.
Monday we went across Lake Pontchatrain again to the Fountaineblue State Park. We did soem riding on some dirt trails and then on a rail-to-trail. It was a little rainy, but we had a nice time. This was about the only place I took my camera too, so that's where these pictures are from.
Spent Monday night at Leah's for easy access to her car and the airport for the flight home. I was very glad of the time I spent visiting Devon. He mentioned that his Thesis Gallery would be in late winter/early fall next year. I'll make sure I come back and go. I want to see what his work looks like when it's all completed.
